Travel to Spain and Living in Spain

The image of the country of Spain to many people in the UK is one of sunshine, beaches and most of all inexpensive Spanish holidays. The population of Spain is just two thirds of the UK population yet the country is twice as big. Travel to Spain is so easy with many airlines offering very cheap flights to Spain, to travel to Spain for an extended weekend is well within the bounds of reason. One can also travel to Spain by car with regular ferries crossing either via France or into the Northern Spanish ports.

Living in Spain has been a popular dream since travel became simpler and cheaper in the sixties and with Spain’s entry into the EEC there has been an enormous increase in the number of foreigners living in Spain. The largest sector of these foreigners are British; in fact in one area of Southern Spain there are more Brits than Spaniards which could mean (if the Brits all bothered to vote) that there could be a British controlled council in Spain! Living in Spain is often an extension of people’s holidays in Spain but once one is living in Spain the holiday must stop and reality allowed to surface whilst enjoying a very different relaxed way of life.
