Post Post subject: Hospital Check Ups and Prescriptions For the Disabled Reply with quote

Hi All

If we retire and move to France, what happens with the cost of Hospital check ups and prescriptions for my disabled partner.

My partner has an illness which requires blood tests at hospital once every 3/4 weeks and regular prescriptions, paid for by the NHS as she is on maximum DLA (Disability Living Allowance).

We know she will loose her DLA when we move to France, and we apply to the local COTOREP who will asses her level of dissability and the ammount of allowance is judged against the level of disability (as in the UK).
But, our question is, if she does get the French equivalent of DLA, does she have to pay towards her hospital check ups (blood tests) and more importantly, her medicine/prescriptions.

Many thanks

Hi Richo,
That's a tough one, I have put out some feelers to try to get the answers for you.

Thanks Rob, that will be really helpful.
We are going out in May to stay with our friends who move out shortly (Vesdun) and whilst out there, will try and get an appointment to see the COTOREP in Bouges.

I have also written to them, asking the same question, as it will have a large bearing on if we can afford to retire to France as I will only be on a small pension due to retiring very early.
