Post subject: alors=donc/eh bien |
|
|
Hi,
Eh bien is "well"/Bueno/pues, right?
Is "alors" the same thing as "donc"/so?
For example,
Elle n'a pas de devoirs (et) alors/donc va a la chez du son amie=She doesn't have any homework, so she's going to go to her friends house=No tiene tarea entonces/asi que va a ir a la casa de su amiga
Alors/donc, qu'esc-ce que tu vas manger?=So, what are you going to have (to eat)?=Entonces, ¿Que vas a comer?
..... alors va nager....=then she's going to swim=.....despues va a nadar
Thank you |

True. But, i'll say, that Eh bien would be So... As it means you're waiting for other to talk about something. But only "Bien" is Well.

Yes but, You could say to someone "Alors ?" (mean So ? What's the result) but not Donc... But "I've a headache so i don't come" vould be donc as in implies a result. It's not easy to feel.

In this case the right way to say is using donc as it implies a result of the fisrt part of the sentence.

Here, you're asking, and it seems there was not just a sentence explaining that he asks what to cook. So (=donc in this sentence) you should use alors, especialy if you don't have any context.

I'll say "donc" because of the English translation, but i'll need the entire sentence. If there's nothings else, it could be "Alors elle va nager ?" but only with a question. Or if you're describing what she did, you should say " blablabla ... et alors elle va se nager".
Hope it helps,

Thank you very much
That helps a lot.
Also, in this case what would "Eh bien...." mean?
-Et moi, j'adore Montreal!
-Eh bien......Salut, Michel
What would "ben" mean in this case?
-Ah? Pourquoi?
-Ben, j'aime etudier et elle n'aime pas ca!
Would be be the same thing as "well"?
A few corrections:
True. But, i'll say, that Eh bien would be So... As it means you're waiting for other to talk about something. But only "Bien" is Well. =True. But, I would say that "Eh bien" would be "so," as it means that you're waiting for the other person to talk about something.
Yes but, You could say to someone "Alors ?" (mean So)=it means so/meaning so
In this case the right way to say is using donc as it implies a result of the fisrt part of the sentence. =In this case, hte right way to say this/it is using "donc," as/since it implies a result of the first part of the sentence.
I've a headache so i don't come=I have a headache, so I can't come.
I hope this helps

Hi,
>>Also, in this case what would "Eh bien...." mean?
>>-Et moi, j'adore Montreal!
>>-Eh bien......Salut, Michel
You'll not say such things because there's no link beetween the two sentences. Most of peaple say 'Eh bien' but it should be written 'Et bien'.
>>What would "ben" mean in this case?
It's due to those who don't write correctly. The right word is 'Bien'. It's a shortcut to 'Et bien'.
>>-Ah? Pourquoi?
>>-Ben, j'aime etudier et elle n'aime pas ca!
>>Would be be the same thing as "well"?
I'd translate by 'In fact'. But's it's truly a good use of it.
