Hi all, I'm new to your forum and although I've read through the "sticky's" was looking for some more help.
My wife and I are considering moving to France on a permanent basis to retire.
Although only aged 48 and 45 respectively I have retired from my occupation on I'll heath grounds and receive an early private pension in respect of that.
My questions are about health care provision and tax issues.
As regards health care I understand that as I am not in receipt of UK state pension that I could only obtain treatment under the French system for two years after which I would either have to take private insurance or make voluntary contributions.
If we moved now, when I eventually qualify to receive UK state pension would we then be covered by the French health care system?
Also voluntary contributions, I assuming a similar system to UK national insurance contributions, approximately how much would they be on average on a monthly basis?
As regards tax I am hoping that my private pension would not receive a double whammy of being taxed by both the UK and French systems...we intend to sell our property in the UK and become permanently domicile in France...how would this affect the taxation issue.
Many thanks in anticipation of your replies...Ken |

Wow those are some questions that you're asking. I really think that you should ask for professional help not from Joe public. Here's a link for you... http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/BritonsLivingAbroad/BeforeYouGo/DG_4000018
France and the UK have a double tax treaty so you won't get taxed in both countries on the same income. _________________ Remember: You don't stop laughing because you grow old, You grow old because you stop laughing! |
