Post Post subject: Skiing in Auvergne Reply with quote

Hi
I have a house in the Cher region and thought of going skiing for a day in April when we come out for the Easter break. Has anyone been to Mont Dore or Super Besse? What is it like? Is there any snow?!!! Does anyone have any suggestions? Love to hear from anyone with any sort of feed back
Thanks
Gina

Hi Gina and welcome to our forum. I thought I'd better reply as no-one has yet, although I'm afraid I can't help you. Perhaps Marcus, our French forum friend knows something about the area.

Hi Jenny
Thank you for replying. I was beginning to wonder if there was anyone out there!!! Looking at the weather on meteo france I believe there has been fresh snow over the last couple of days. Hopefully someone out there has been to Mont Dore or Super Besse and will let me know what to expect
Regards
Gina

Hi Gina...

I've indeed visited theses two places (SuperBesse and Mont-Dore) but in spring... and there wasn't snow at that time.
I've checked, and both are closed on April the 17th ; you can get their snowed status there Mont Dore status and Super Besse status...

Just check one week before if there's still snow (it seems that Super Besse is far better than Mont Dore dealing to the number of opened pists) but you might be obliged to go to the Alps.

Hi Marcus
Thank you for replying. The snow in Super Besse is good at the moment as they have just had fresh snow. Thank you for the web sites, I'll monitor these but think we will visit snow or no just to take in the sights
Regards
Gina

A friend of mine has gone to Super Besse for his skiing holidays two years ago and said that he liked it a lot. Unfortunately I myself haven't made it there so far.

Hi,
I used to live nearby and still have a place there.
Went skiing at the end of feb last year.
It is much more laid back than the Alps in my opinion and generally less crowded slopes (and cheaper.)
I would highly recommend it.
Very Happy

My friend and I had been in Super-Besse last year of Febrauary for 1 week vacation. What I really like in that place is having restaurants and cafes terraces at the foot of the slopes which they serve snacks and meals at reasonable prices. There were reasonable costs hotels in the said place. Smile
