Hi Steve, please don't shout. Using upper case is shouting in forum terms. If you want information you need to give details. Is your girlfriend French has she paid her social/taxes? etc etc

Hi Rob sorry for SHOUTING !!!, my Girlfriend was fully paid up in the UK and was working full time until she came over to live with me nearly two years ago, she has a French social security number but has not worked or claimed since arriving here.

In France, you get right to earn money during unenployment as far as you've worked enough before getting it (unemployment), and if you've been fired for no heavy reasons and not have leaved your job for self convenience.

Those who have French citizenkane can also have a minimum income that is called RMI and is given for French older than 25 without any incomes.

Nevertheless, most of time, finding a job is best way of living Wink
In my opinion, working in restaurant or such things can be rather easy as there's truly many offers in this branch (and it can improve French ... sometimes).
