France thrash England at rugby in Marseille
England’s rugby team suffered a 22-9 defeat by France in Marseille in what was their last warm-up game ahead of the World Cup.

In the first half France claimed a 12-3 lead with four Jean-Baptiste Elissalde penalties and they bettered this when Yannick Jauzion scored a well-played try.

Jean Baptiste ElissaldeEngland, who have a poor recent record having only won once in their last 16 away matches, could only manage three penalties by Jonny Wilkinson, whilst captain Phil Vickery as well as Martin Corry both had to leave due to injuries.

A very disappointed head coach Brian Ashton has plenty to concern him ahead of England's opening World Cup game against the US on 8 September.

Actually the score could have been even worse for England because France missed three penalties as well as two great chances of tries.

And there were moments of ill-feeling too when Martin Corry and French captain Fabien Pelous, who is now France's most capped player, were spoken to by the referee after an off-the-ball tussle.

A victorious France next travel to Wales for next weekend's Test in the Welsh capital of Cardiff.
