French Harry Potter teenage translator not charged
The French 16-year-old who was arrested for translating Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and publishing the text online will not be charged, it has been reported.

JK Rowling 's French publisher, Gallimard, said they had come to an agreement with the author not to sue the teenager from the southern city of Aix-en-Provence who had been arrested last week.

Harry PotterThe teenage translator of the Harry Potter novel had explained to French police that he hadn’t been seeking to make money from his translation, which appeared on the Internet within days of the book's release on 21 July.

A spokeswoman for Gallimard reportedly explained: "The aim was never financial, it only aimed to protect authors' rights."

The official authorised French translation of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is due for release on 26 October.

Investigators into what the teenager had done were impressed by the "near-professional" quality of the youth’s translation, however, Gallimard wanted to point out that they backed the investigation because they wanted "to remind people that piracy harms the basic rights of authors and creators".
