The French love being part of organizations
The French are known to be absolutely individual and have their own firm opinions about almost everything. They are seen by different nations as being very difficult to reach a compromise with. That's why the fact, that the French like joining associations, revealed by the last surveys may seem surprising.

There are many non-profit organizations, on average one for every 60 people in the country. The research conducted by the Center for Research on Philanthropy (CERPHI) shows that almost 7% of French citizens took an active part in setting up some kind of association.

The most popular organizations are those dealing with cultural activities, volunteer work for those in need, vacationing and sport. What deserves special consideration is the fact that during the last year, 70,000 new associations were created. Many of them are run by volunteers, but of course there are some which have salaried employees.  More than 1.6 million people work for associations and about 5% of the working population in France is paid by them and what's more, about 14 million of the total population is involved in voluntary work.

Although the fact of such common membership in numerous organizations may surprise, it appears to be a great way of joining efforts to support those who wait for help every single day.
