
The arms contract between France and Libya valued at $405m (£199m) had caused suspicion in France and in the media, especially after it was made public just one week after the six medics, imprisoned in Libya for eight years, were let go.
France's opposition socialist party has launched an investigation, which will examine the details of negotiations between France and Libya.
The defence minister for France, Herve Morin, said that the deal had been in the pipeline for months and that after an arms embargo had been lifted, France had become one of several countries in talks with Libya.
