Blues legend Etta James hospitalised

Legendary blues singer Etta James has been admitted to a Los Angeles hospital and is in a stable condition after suffering complications during abdominal surgery, it has been reported.

Etta James, 69, has been recovering in the hospital since the operation in mid-June, and although she was scheduled to tour with BB King and Al Green this summer, she won’t be able to make any appearances before late August.

Etta James’ manager explained that doctors had warned her against an early discharge and said: "If it had been left solely up to her, she would have checked herself out of the hospital and started the tour regardless."

Equally legendary bandleader Johnny Otis discovered Etta James originally, and since then her career has spanned five decades.

Etta James was inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, and winning the first of three Grammy awards for 1994's Mystery Lady: The Songs of Billie Holiday, are among her achievements in the world of music.
