Police in Minneapolis call halt to Prince show
Pop singer-songwriter Prince had to leave the stage and end his performance because police would not allow the late-night gig in his hometown of Minneapolis to go on any further.

Flamboyant and eccentric singer Prince, 49, who has been known in the past as “The Artist Formerly Known Ss Prince” and “The Artist,” was halfway through his concert at the legendary First Avenue nightclub when he announced that he had to stop the show.

The First Avenue clubThe First Avenue club, which Prince made famous in his movie Purple Rain, is permitted to stay open until 0300, but Prince only began his performance at 0245 on Sunday.

Prince had played some of his hits including I Feel For You and Controversy before police stepped in to stop him playing longer. However, Prince was allowed a little extra time to wind the show down.

Police sergeant ET Nelson explained he had more than 20 officers working overtime to block off the streets around the club and he said: "I think it's very arrogant of him to think he can hold us here like this."
