US singer Barbra Streisand honoured in France
Popular US singer Barbra Streisand has been awarded France's highest civilian honour, two days after she gave her first concert there.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy presented Barbra Streisand with the Legion of Honour at a ceremony in at the Elysee Palace in Paris, and at which other celebrity guests included veteran French singer Charles Aznavour and actor Alain Delon.


Barbra Streisand"You are the America that we love," Nicolas Sarkozy is reorted to have said, and he added: "Women like you... do a lot to bring our two peoples together."

Barbra Streisand, 65, was accompanied at the Paris ceremony by her husband James Brolin and her son, Jason Gould.

Barbra Streisand performed at Paris' Bercy stadium on Tuesday before an audience of 10,000 fans, and Nicolas Sarkozy's wife Cecilia was one of them.

Barbra Streisand said that Nicolas Sarkozy reminded her of former American presidents John F Kennedy and Bill Clinton.
