Pirates of the Caribbean censored for China
Variety magazine has revealed that Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, starring Johnny Depp, has been censored for Chinese cinema audiences, and some scenes featuring Hong Kong actor Chow Yun-fat have been trimmed.

Chow Yun-fats's recitation of a poem in Cantonese is one scene the censors have edited, the report says.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's EndThe magazine also reported that a Disney spokesman said that audiences would see a Chinese version of the film, which had been cut in places but he wouldn’t say any more than that.

Chinese forums online have had many people criticising the film's image of Chow Yun-fat's character because they claim he has been stereotyped by Hollywood.

The distributors of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, the China Film Group maintained it had made no cuts, and then declined to comment on a report that it had cut scenes involving too much violence and horror.

The previous instalment in the series of movies Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest was banned by the Chinese film bureau due to scenes of cannibalism and ghosts.
