
YouTube executive Chris Maxcy is reported to have said that the tool would be tested in a month's time.
Breach of copyright has been an ongoing problem for YouTube, and in March, the media company Viacom launched a lawsuit against YouTube for $1bn (£507m) for copyright infringement.
YouTube, in its defense, had denied the charges and vowed to take a tough line on copyright violation, which it is now about to honour its word on.
Apparently, the technology will be tested with a number of partners, including Disney and Time Warner, and if successful, the identification tools would be made available to any copyright owners later on this year.
