
However, turnout for the French parliamentary elections is reported to have reached a record low, at around only 61%, in contrast with that of 84% at the presidential election a month back.
Polling companies said the party could win anything between 383 and 501 of parliament's 577 seats, compared to its 359 at present.

The Socialist party, whose presidential candidate Segolene Royal was defeated by Nicolas Sarkozy, in the presidential election were ready fro another loss, because it has been predicted that they will lose many of their seats.
To counter this Segolene Royal urged her party’s supporters to show up and register their votes. "The republic needs you, because the republic needs a great force of the left to watch over things," Segolene Royal is reported to have said.
