French study links brain tumours with pesticides
French research suggests that farm workers who are exposed to high levels of pesticides have an increased risk of developing brain tumours, and it also showed a higher risk potential among people who used the chemicals on houseplants.

An Occupational and Environmental Medicine study suggested that the risk to agricultural workers exposed to the highest levels of pesticides was more than doubled than for people who used lower levels.

brain tumourThe research was conducted in the Bordeaux wine-growing region of France, where the majority of the pesticides used are fungicides, and the findings of the study were based on an analysis of 221 cases of brain tumours by the French Institute of Public Health, Epidemiology and Development.

The research scientists were, however, unable to get sufficient specific data to prove without any doubt, what types of pesticide were likely to cause brain tumours.

Pesticide exposure has also been linked with Parkinson’s disease in another study.
