The research was conducted in the Bordeaux wine-growing region of France, where the majority of the pesticides used are fungicides, and the findings of the study were based on an analysis of 221 cases of brain tumours by the French Institute of Public Health, Epidemiology and Development.
The research scientists were, however, unable to get sufficient specific data to prove without any doubt, what types of pesticide were likely to cause brain tumours.
Pesticide exposure has also been linked with Parkinson’s disease in another study.
