Jane Campion wants to see more women movie directors
Award-winning movie director Jane Campion has shown a new short film at the Cannes Film Festival, in which she aims to show the lack of female directors in the industry she works in.

In the film, a woman dressed up as an insect costume gets stomped on in a movie theatre and this portrays what it is like for a woman trying to make her way as a successful movie director in a male-dominated industry.

Jane CampionJane Campion, who is the only female director to have won the festival's Palme d'Or, explained: "I just think this is the way the world is, that men control the money, and they decide who they're going to give it to."

Jane Campion won the Palme d’Or award for her film The Piano in 1993, and she was also nominated for an Academy Award for best director, which made Jane Campion only the third woman to ever be shortlisted for this achievement.

35 directors had been invited to make a short film for Cannes' 60th anniversary, and in the group gathered for a media conference on Sunday, she was the only woman among many other top names that included Roman Polanski and Gus Van Sant.
