One of the fans made an attempt to open Fabien Barthez’s car door, which resulted in him getting out to remonstrate with the attacker. This escalated into a tussle, which was broken up when security staff intervened.
Fabien Barthez is reported to have stated on French radio: "I will not play for Nantes again,"
"This has got nothing to do with football. I no longer feel safe there and it's better for me to leave."
In January 2007, Fabien Barthez, who has played for Manchester United, had made a return to football from retirement in a bid to help Nantes but this has not had the desired affect and Nantes are now bottom of Ligue 1.
