Hollywood film star Richard Gere made an apology for causing offence by kissing Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, who had recently been a member of the Celebrity Big Brother house.
Richard Gere, 57, had kissed Shilpa Shetty, 31, at an AIDS awareness event in Delhi, India, and the incident sparked public demonstrations as well as an arrest warrant being issued by a court in Jaipur for behaviour, which was classed as obscene. A local lawyer had filed a legal complaint about Richard Gere and Shilpa Shetty.
Richard Gere said he hadn’t understood the Indian customs regarding such matters and that he regretted any problems he had caused for Shilpa Shetty by his action.
