This new recall of pet foods is in spite of assurances from FDA officials just last week that its investigation was nearly finished and that it believed all the potentially dangerous foods had been found.
Menu Foods, prompted by FDA inquiries, has stated that it had found some more suspect wheat gluten, possibly tainted with melamine, which had come from a plant in Kansas to its Canadian Menu plant in Ontario.
Because of this new evidence Menu Foods was recalling food that the Canadian plant had made in December and January, and, in Canada, the company recalled some more cat foods sold only in that country.
