Rapper Snoop Dogg gets probation for gun and drugs charges
American rapper Snoop Dogg pleaded no contest to gun and drug charges in a Californian court and in making this plea managed to escape being imprisoned.

Snoop Dogg, 35, real name Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr, who was arrested in October and charged after he was found in possession of a gun and drugs, was sentenced to five years probation and 800 hours of community service by Superior Court Judge Terry Smerling.

Rap star Snoop DoggThe judge also ruled that Snoop Dogg is not allowed to have any gang members in his entourage.

Snoop Dogg’s lawyer Donald Etra said his client was grateful for the sentence. And said: "He recognises the severity of this."

Police had found marijuana in Snoop Dogg's car whilst interviewing him over a parking violation at Burbank's Bob Hope airport and the gun was later discovered at the rapper's home.

Because Snoop Dogg had been convicted of felony drug charges in 1990, it was against the law for him to own a gun and he could have been imprisoned for up to four years.
