Former stars of the Swedish pop group Abba, Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, who once had a hit with The Winner Takes It All, have just won a court case over who gets the royalties from one of their popular musicals.

Carl-Johan Seth had written a first draft of a show called Kristina from Duvemala, which tells the story of 19th Century Swedish immigrants to America and of the heroine Kristina, but Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson from Abba successfully argued in court that his script couldn’t be used.

Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny AnderssonKristina Fran Duvemala has a score by Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson and a recording of the Swedish show on CD is available on the MSI label.

Carl-Johan Seth had claimed in court that he was the main writer, however, Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson said they had used a script by director Lars Rudolfsson and dramatist Jan Mark.

Carl-Johan Seth's lawyer Staffan Michelson said he client was very disappointed with the outcome of the court and would be appealing against its decision.

Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson now plan to take the musical of Kristina Fran Duvemala to Broadway, but have previously had to wait until the court case was settled.
