According to French law the adoption of children by homosexual couples is forbidden. But the issue of "homoparentship" remains an often discussed problem among politicians and French society. Gays and lesbians are attempting to obtain laws permitting adoption, but only one third of the nation approves of it.
Even if homosexuals do not have the right to adopt, there are many that do raise children. The most common methods of obtaining a child are: adoption by a single woman (two lesbian live apart and are financial independent) - then one of them becomes mother and the other one "auntie", an in-vitro fertilization with an anonymous donor's sperm (this is forbidden in France, couples must go abroad, to the Netherlands mainly) or, the third solution - fertilization with a gay-friend's sperm and then sharing a bringing up process between lesbian mothers and gay fathers.
