War (What Is It Good For) by Ugly Rumours could top charts
War (What Is It Good For?) has been released as a single by the Ugly Rumours, named after UK Prime Minister Tony Blair’s old student rock band of the same name. The song, originally recorded and a hit for soul singer Edwin Starr has already reached number six in the British pop charts within just days of its release.

The band Ugly Rumours are fronted by a Tony Blair look-alike and the BBC are reported to have banned it and its accompanying video, despite all the success of the record and the interest it has quickly generated. However, War (What Is It Good For?) was featured in the “and finally” spot on an ITV news programme and has been played and broadcast on TV stations around the world.

Ugly RumoursWar (What Is It Good For?) is being released to highlight the 4th anniversary of the war in Iraq, which falls on March 19 and costs just £1.50 with all profits going to the Stop the War Coalition.

Explaining how the organisers hope that the song will work as a protest against the war, Ben Grey, who produced War (What Is It Good For?) said: "Marches and rallies can be dismissed and ignored but a hit record will mean everyone is talking about this issue."

And MP George Galloway demanded that the ban on War (What Is It Good For?) should be removed and that the director-general of the BBC should explain why one of the country’s most popular current songs is being censored.
