Daniel Radcliffe star of Harry Potter makes stage debut in EquusActor Daniel Radcliffe, who came to fame starring in the Harry Potter films, was given a standing ovation for his debut stage performance in Equus at the Gielgud Theatre in London’s West End.
Daniel Radcliffe, 17, plays the role of stable-boy Alan Strang, who has a relationship with his horses, and actor Christian Slater, rock singer Bob Geldof and presenter Graham Norton were among the celebrities in the audience.
Christian Slater was very impressed and said: "The work that Daniel did on stage was incredible, extraordinary. I take my hat off to him completely." The play Equus and Daniel Radcliffe’s performance in it, have also had good reviews in the press, however, a nude scene with co-star Joanna Christie has perhaps predictably dominated headlines. Comedian and TV presenter Graham Norton, who is known for being open about his own gay sexuality, joked: "Why do people keep asking about him being naked? I'm a gay man and I'm not mentioning it. It's a play - get over it, ladies." Warner Bros, the studio that made the Harry Potter films, made a statement saying it supported Daniel Radcliffe in his acting career on stage as well as screen.
