Pop singer Britney Spears’ hair on sale by Internet auction

Esther’s Hair Studio in California, where pop singer Britney Spears shaved her head on Friday, has started a website to auction off the hair for more than $1m (£512,500).

The website is called buybritneyshair.com, claims to have been set up by salon owner Esther Tognozzi, and it carries “authentic” photos of Britney Spears’ hair. Apparently, they originally listed the hair on eBay, but it was cancelled for an "unknown reason," so the salon owners set up their own site.

Besides the hair that belonged to Britney Spears, the winning bidder also gets the hair clippers Britney Spears used to shave her head, as well as a blue lighter she left behind and a can of Red Bull energy drink that she had been drinking at the time.

Britney Spears’ behaviour had sparked concerns that she may be experiencing a nervous breakdown following the breakdown of her marriage and she was spotted in Hollywood soon after wearing a short blonde wig.

By Tuesday morning there were many more supposed locks of so-called Britney Spears' hair for sale on eBay - including some from Britain and Germany, but the company said that many such postings claiming to offer the singer’s hair have been removed.
