Microsoft bumper package with fixes for 20 security risks
Microsoft's February security update is a bumper package, which contains fixes for 20 potential risks to computer safety and Windows users are recommended to download it from the Windows update website.

The new package includes fixes for loopholes that hackers are known to have been already making use of for the past several weeks.

MicrosoftLoopholes in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer and Microsoft's Malware Protection Engine are rendered safe by the new package and versions of these programs used on Windows 2000 and XP could also have these loopholes.

There is vulnerability in the Microsoft program to find viruses and spyware on infected computers and the new package has the fix for this risk.

Windows users who are concerned that their PCs might be in danger are urged to check the details about which programs are vulnerable on Microsoft's security site.

None of the patches apply to Vista, which is the latest version of the Windows operating system recently released on 30 January.
