Cuban leader Fidel Castro’s health improves
According to Venezuela's ambassador to Cuba Ali Rodriguez, the president of the country Fidel Castro is showing signs he is getting better and is once again able to eat.

Fidel Castro, 80, is making progress following gastric surgery, although the Cuban leader hasn’t appeared in public since his operation back last July, and this had led to rumours of his illness being cancer or other terminal disease.

Fidel CastroMr Rodriguez said the key to Fidel Castro's recent recovery of health was because he had decided to start eating again.

"The problem is that at first he was not eating food, but now he is eating food and that has helped him significantly," Ali Rodriguez said on Venezuelan television.

Fidel Castro’s younger brother Raul has been fulfilling the presidential duties since the Cuban leader was taken seriously ill.

Fidel Castro's health is regarded as a state secret in Cuba, and authorities there have denied the claims that he has terminal cancer but will only say that Mr Castro is making satisfactory progress with his recovery.
