According to the Guinness Book of World Records the heaviest baby ever recorded was given birth to by Canadian Anna Bates in 1879. The baby weighed 23.12lb (10.8kg) and died just 11 hours after being born.
Ademilton dos Santos, who is Francisca Ramos dos Santos' fifth child, was delivered by Caesarean section on Wednesday at a hospital in Salvador.
Doctors think his giant size was probably due to the fact that his mother's suffers from diabetes.
Mrs Santos has another four other children aged nine, 12, 14, and 15, but they were all of normal weight when they were born.
Because of his mother’s diabetes Ademilton dos Santos is receiving glucose solution intravenously and also being given oxygen due to breathing problems.
However, "Both mother and baby are doing just fine," said Rita Leal, director of the Albert Sabin Maternity Hospital.
