France wants to help regions affected by Katrina Hurricane
On September 2nd France's foreign ministry HurricaneKatrinaannounced some details of help for the southern states of America that were affected by the devastating hurricane Katrina. The assistance is going to cover air and naval support. Ms Villepin said that the French were ready to help Americans in many ways including the use of civil rescue facilities based in the West Indies. France is waiting for a response from the American side and a statement released by the White House said that US would accept offers of support from abroad and the American spokesman, Scott McClellan said "We are open to all offers of assistance from other nations, and I would expect that we would take people up on offers of assistance when it's necessary."

France has already collected some means of support such as eight aircraft, including two already in the area, two ships and a 20-man team of military medical experts as well as 600 tents, 1000 camp beds, 60 generators, three water treatment plants, and 1000 jerry cans. Furthermore, an interior ministry team consisting of 35 people including 11 hurricane specialists is ready to help the Americans. As far as human sources are concerned France also wants to provide Katrina's victims with a 60-man airborne team.

Some non-governmental organizations, such as the Telecoms Without Borders or water company Veolia also wish to provide some support by repairing telecommunications and water networks in parts of the US affected by Katrina.

The hurricane has already caused the death of many people and there are still thousands trapped in New Orleans and Louisiana. So far there are no reports of French casualties but the scale of the disaster is enormous and cannot fail to touch international feelings. President Jacques Chirac on Wednesday sent a letter to George W Bush expressing his sadness in connection with the disastrous Hurricane Katrina.

Thanks to France for all help.

I apologize for some of my country man's response (from Bill O'Reilly of FoxNews):

"Our great ally France has offered the following in the wake of Katrina: 600 tents, 1,000 cots, some kitchen kits, 60 generators and 12 experts to advise the American Red Cross. --I hope they speak English.

Now I believe the 4-H Club of Bangor, Maine, has topped that offer. "

There is no excuse for such anti-French attitude, especially during such a critical time. Thank you for the effort.

I feel special appreciation for France's offer of assistance, in view of the fact the French founded the two hardest hit cities -- Biloxi in 1699 and New Orleans (La Nouvelle-Orléans) in 1718.

We welcome the support. We, in the Houston area, are host to over 100,000 displaced neighbors. That is not counting other cities in TX: Dallas, Corpus Christie, San Antonio, several military bases. There is not a hotel/motel room vacant in the area. We are coping, but it is so sad and help is needed from everyone. This hurricane sucker-punched the folks there. They thought it was going to miss them, so they did not heed the "get out now" call the government officials gave them. New Orleans has been under alert since the French founded this beautiful city. But, it is a dangerous place to live. The levees were in danger, but the one that caused most of the trouble HAD been upgraded. What can you do when the storm surge goes over the levee? We have too many "Arm Chair First Responders" Michelle Malkin's term. We don't need race-baiting or name-calling. We need care. The worst of this disaster is that is so wide-spread. If you look at a map, it is heart-breaking.
That's the sad side, but I have spoken to people that will not be deterred, they have hope and determination, best of all; they can smile.
Thank you for your help.
