Former France goalie Fabien Barthez may return with Nantes

Former France and Manchester United goalkeeper Fabien Barthez could be about to make his return to football with Nantes.

Fabien Barthez, 35, who left his last club Olympique Marseille in the summer, announced he was retiring from sport in October, however, Ligue One strugglers Nantes have confirmed they are thinking of attempting to lure him back into playing football again.

Nantes coach Georges Eo said: "It has been mentioned. Our president Rudi Roussillon told me we were going to talk to Fabien and asked my opinion."

Fabien Barthez was with France when they won the World Cup in 1998 and the European championship in 2000 and he was part of the French team that reached the 2006 World Cup final.

Besides his period with Manchester United, Fabien Barthez made 87 international appearances for France, playing for Marseille and also for Toulouse and Monaco.
