However, the President went on to promise a "new era of co-operation," with Democrats, and claimed that a Democratic majority will not mean a hasty pull-out from Iraq. "To our enemies," he said, "do not be joyful."
George Bush said Robert Gates, who was the former head of the CIA under the first President Bush, would be replacing Donald Rumsfeld.
