Google can aid doctors according to study
The Internet search engine Google can aid doctors in diagnosing difficult cases, researchers have claimed.

A team of Australian doctors used Google to research the symptoms of 26 cases for a study in the New England Journal of Medicine and in 15 cases, the online search came up with the right diagnosis, the paper published on the British Medical Journal website reveals.

The authors claim that Google can be a "useful aid", but British experts said the Internet was "no replacement" for proper doctors.

Google has more than three billion medical articles - and searching for health information is one of the most common uses of the search engine.

The research team, which was led by Dr Hangwi Tang, a respiratory and sleep physician, said Google could be a "useful aid" in diagnosing conditions with unique symptoms and signs that can easily be used as search terms on the Internet.
