Kentucky Fried Chicken to stop trans-fatty acids
Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) has said it will stop using trans-fatty acids for most of its take-away products from next April on.

However, its biscuits will still contain trans-fats, but the American fast-food company will no longer be frying food in them.

Meanwhile, New York is considering a ban on the use of trans-fats in the city's 20,000 restaurants, due to the mounting concern about premature deaths and rising obesity in the US.

Trans-fat increases the damaging cholesterol content of a meal, clogging up arteries and increasing the risk of a heart attack and eighty percent of the items of a Kentucky Fried Chicken menu have it in them.

Several hundred KFC outlets have been testing alternative cooking oils for some time and the company says its customers have not been able to spot the difference.

KFC's decision to withdraw the use of trans-fats will apply to its outlets all over America.
