Sir Richard Branson wants airlines not to add to global warming
Sir Richard Branson has said that the global aviation industry must work together to help tackle climate change and not to add to the problem and he claimed that up to 25% of the world's aviation carbon dioxide emissions could be cut if airlines, airports and governments worked as a team.

Sir Richard Branson only last week pledged Virgin profits worth $3bn (£1.6bn) towards renewable energy initiatives and is now calling upon others to support a cross-industry forum to tackle the "growing problem" of global warming.

In New York, Richard Branson will be outlining proposals he says would save over 150m tonnes of carbon emissions a year.

"With global warming, the world is heading for a catastrophe. The aviation industry must play its part in averting that," Sir Richard Branson said.

The boss of Virgin and self-made tycoon Richard Branson has written to airlines, airport operators and engine manufacturers stressing the need for the industry to speed up the rate at which it changes its practices.

Richard Branson should be commended for his belated conversion to the cause of fighting climate change.

At Treeflights.com we plant trees for airline passengers to offset their CO2 emissions. We would have to plant about a million trees every year to cope with the emissions from of his airline businesses.
