"We have no news about him and we still do not know who was responsible for the abduction, for which no one has claimed responsibility," a Palestinian security services spokesman said.
The incident took place just hours before Israel formally began its withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
The incident was the latest in a series of abductions in Gaza in recent weeks and comes just three days after Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas ordered security services to protect foreign workers in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. "Any aggression against our foreign guests represents a challenge to the rule of law and we will not permit it," he said.
The kidnappings have been extremely embarrassing for the Palestinian Authority which is trying to prove it can keep law and order after Israel completes its withdrawal from the Gaza Strip after a 38-year occupation.
