Skinny models banned from Madrid's fashion shows
Madrid banned very thin models from Spain's top fashion shows and caused a lot of discussion among fashion professionals, in the media and on Internet forums.

Although millions of women welcomed the new move announced by the regional authorities and the Pasarela Cibeles fashion show it has annoyed some of Spain's most famous models like Eugenia Silva who declined to take part, reportedly because they found the weight checks humiliating.

Some fashion-watchers have even complained that expecting people to have a certain weight and height is a form of discrimination.

Experts concerned with eating disorders, however, thought the weight limit was a step in the right direction and the new policy of the Pasarela Cibeles has been welcomed in several European fashion capitals.

British Culture Minister Tessa Jowell urged the London Fashion Week to follow the example of Madrid.
Mayor of Milan Letizia Moratti criticised sick-looking models at her city's show and Madrid official Concha Guerra said that thinness is not beauty, but shows some kind of deficiency.
