Disneyland Resort Paris
DisneylandParisDisneyland Resort Paris is definitely one of the most popular family holiday destinations in Europe. It is located in Marne-la-Vallée, 30 kilometers to the east of Paris and is easy accessible as visitors may use the RER (commuter train) as well as direct links TGV created by the resort and operating in numerous large French cities. There are also connections with Belgium by Thalys trains and London by Eurostar.

The construction of the French Disneyland began in 1988 and the resort was officially opened as Euro Disney Resort on April 12, 1992. At the beginning the attendance was low, five hundred thousand guests were expected on opening day but only a small number of the predicted visitors turned out. This situation continued for the next few months. In addition some people protested against the creation of the park as it was portrayed as an American influence on French culture. It was also claimed that the park was far too big and the project carried too much debt.

In October 1994, Euro Disney changed its name to Disneyland Paris and later to Disneyland Resort Paris. Additionally more attractions were introduced and the entire place has become a Theme Park complex in order to appeal to European tastes. Due to all the changes, in 1995 Disneyland Resort Paris finally turned a profit.  In 2002 the second theme park, Walt Disney Studios was created. The main aim of introducing this was to keep visitors in Disneyland Resort longer.

DisneylandParisOver the next few years the resort is planning to expand and create several new rides: buzz Lightyear's Laser Blast is predicted to be opened in 2006, a new project, Toon Studios, is going to be introduced in Walt Disney Studios park in 2007 and the Tower of Terror will welcome visitors to Walt Disney Studios in 2008. The aforementioned rides are to supplement the existing ‘'The Legend of the Lion King Show'' that started to operate in 2004 and Space Mountain: Mission 2, which opened in 2005.

The Resort consists of three main districts, mainly Disneyland Park, Walt Disney Studios and Disney Village. Let's pay a little attention to these places.

Disneyland Park or ‘Parc Disneyland' is a very important part of the resort as it's one of two theme parks there. It was built on the basis of the proven template of Disneyland in California, the Magic Kingdom in Florida and Tokyo Disneyland in Japan. It was opened as Euro Disney, changing to Disneyland Paris in 1995 and now Walt Disney Studios can be found in this district too. The Park is divided into five areas each of which conveys a specific theme and purpose; these are: Main Street, USA, Fantasyland, Adventureland, Discoveryland and Frontierland. The park is seasonally decorated and some changes are made according to the current holiday season, such as Christmas when almost everything is Christmas - themed.

The Walt Disney Studios in France is called Parc Walt Disney and is the second theme park in the Disney estate in France. The parc is centered around a working film studio and it shows the atmosphere of a film set both inside and out. So far the studio has done work on some of Disney's finest hits, such as The Little Mermaid, The Lion King and Pocahontas.

And finally Disney Village, this is a huge, colorful shopping complex in Disneyland Resort Paris and is definitely worth visiting. It was modeled on the Downtown Disney shopping resorts in the USA and is situated next to the two theme parks of Disneyland Paris, namely the Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios. There one can find an enormous video arcade, a two-story McDonald's restaurant and a huge number of stores which sell the whole range of items and souvenirs from Disneyland Resort Paris.
