Mr
Gergorin turned up at the national fraud squad headquarters in Nanterre
near Paris on Tuesday but although he showed up voluntarily he has
denied trying to damage Mr Sarkozy's presidential ambitions and career.
The letter mentioned accounts with a well-known Luxembourg-based
financial clearing house, known as Clearstream, which were alleged were
used by Mr Sarkozy and other leading French politicians and celebrities
for money laundering.
The scandal has also implicated Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin,
who has denied any harmful actions against his rival, Mr Sarkozy.
