Sir Elton John's clothes raise over $700,000 (£395,000) for Aids charity
A sale of haute couture clothes belonging to flamboyant rock star Sir Elton John has raised more than $700,000 (£395,000) for his Aids charity.

Approximately 10,000 items of clothing were put forward for the five-day sale in New York, which ended on Friday.

Among the clothes was a polka-dot suit designed by Richard James, which Elton John wore while duetting with Eminem at the Grammy Awards in 2001 and there were also outfits from world famous designers including Versace and Louis Vuitton.

Sir Elton John's partner, David Furnish, also gave some of his clothes to the specially created shop, Elton's Closet, at New York's Rockefeller Centre.

The money generated will be given to the Elton John Aids Foundation, a charitable organisation set up in 1992 to educate people around the world about Aids prevention, and to provide help for those living with the disease.
