This is the first biological child for both Cruise and Holmes, although Tom has two adopted children, Isabella, 13, and Connor, 11, from his marriage to actress Nicole Kidman.
The couple started dating in April 2005 and got engaged in Paris in June. Rumour has it that they plan to get married later this year.
Much controversy has been plaguing the birth of this baby and it has not been confirmed whether or not Cruise ate the placenta, as he had stated in an interview, and whether Katie adhered to the Scientology practice of remaining silent during the birth. Katie, who had been raised a Roman Catholic, recently joined Tom in following the Church of Scientology.
