Hollywood star Dennis Hopper to divorce Victoria Duffy

Hollywood film star Dennis Hopper wants a divorce from Victoria Duffy, who is his fifth wife. The couple have been together for almost 14 years but Hopper is suffering from prostate cancer and says he wants to spend his days with his children and close friends.

The actor, who is best-known for his roles in Easy Rider, Blue Velvet and Apocalypse Now, issued a statement that reads: "I wish Victoria the best, but only want to spend these difficult days surrounded by my children and close friends."

Hopper has a young daughter by Duffy, but Alex Hitz, the star’s spokesman, is quoted by Reuters, as saying that he now "wants peace and quiet".

According to Hitz, Hopper and his wife have been "having trouble" but are still sharing the same house until they can make new arrangements.

A petition for divorce from Duffy was filed at Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday that cites "irreconcilable differences" as the reason. Hopper is seeking legal custody of his six-year-old daughter, Galen.

Hopper was diagnosed as suffering from prostate cancer in September and is being treated with chemotherapy.
