French aid workers kidnapped in AfricaTwo male French aid workers are reported to have been abducted in the Central African Republic on the border with Chad and Sudan.
The men, who work for the Triangle charity, are said to have been taken captive by gunmen in the town of Birao.
The French foreign ministry has demanded that the kidnap victims should be released as soon as possible, and according to the Reuters news agency, the ministry's crisis unit was in contact with all those concerned. The AFP news agency had been informed by an elder from the local people in the area that about 20 armed men with three cars and a motorbike made their getaway to Sudan after taking their victims prisoner. There have a number of other attacks against non-governmental organisations made in eastern Chad in the past.
