Kate Winslet accepts libel damages for Daily Mail feature
Actress Kate Winslet has been awarded £25,000 libel damages by London’s High Court for a claim that the Daily Mail had published in January suggesting that she lied about her exercise routine.

34-year-old Winslet accepted the damages but was not present for the hearing but she issued a statement saying: "I am delighted that the Mail have apologised for making false allegations about me."

Kate WinsletThe Oscar-winning actress had claimed that the story in the Daily Mail, with the title Should Kate Winslet win an Oscar for the world's most irritating actress?, had injured her personal and professional reputation.

Winslet’s lawyer, Rachel Atkins, explained to the judge Mr Justice Eady that the story had included nude photos of the actress and was offensive.

The Daily Mail made a public apology in September, and admitted that Winslet had not lied about how much time she spent exercising.
