Human rights activists and witnesses say that soldiers from Guinea opened fire on an unarmed crowd of protesters inside a stadium in Conakry.
It is claimed that 157 people were shot to death, however, the government maintains that it was 57. The protesters and activists say that many women were raped by the troops as well.
Capt Camara , who came to power in a military coup in 2008, has said in his defence that he was not responsible for what the soldiers did, and also that Guinea was "not a district of France".
