Singer Donovan gets the title “icon” at London awards
Singer-songwriter Donovan, who came to fame in the 1960s, has been honoured with the title of "icon" at an annual London awards ceremony. The event was held by the American performing rights organisation BMI.

63-year-old Donovan had hits including Catch The Wind, Colours and Sunshine Superman, and he is acknowledged as one of the main driving forces to have changed the face of popular music in the 1960s. The singer had as many as seven top 10 hits between 1965 and 1968.

DonovanBMI called Donovan "a man of unfathomable talent".

Donovan was very proud of having been named as an “icon” and said so pointing out that it was “not for records sold and it's not for good looks and it's not for the best-dressed man..." The title was given to him for his song-writing abilities and that made it a very special honour.

Singers Bryan Ferry, Ray Davies and Van Morrison have been previous recipients of the prestigious award.
