Taton was seriously injured in the head and chest when some French fans were viciously attacked by a 30-strong group of men carrying iron bars and baseball bats, according to the Reuters news agency. The attackers were all believed to be Serbs and another two French football fans were also hurt.
Serb news website B92 reported that police had arrested 11 suspects two days after the incident, and 10 of these were detained.
French Sports Minister Rama Yade has requested that Serbia should not allow these crimes of violence that resulted in death to go unpunished.
