French-born director Roman Polanski’s lawyers seek his release
French-born film director Roman Polanski’s legal team are seeking his release from detention in Switzerland and to stop his extradition to America.

Polanski’s lawyer Herve Temime is reported to have said that his client is "in fighting mood" and that steps are being taken to set him free.

Roman PolanskiThe 76-year-old director, who is in custody in Zurich, was arrested three days ago because US prosecutors want to extradite him so that he can be sentenced for having unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977.

Polanski had pleaded guilty at the time but then avoided being sentenced by escaping out of the country and has since been living in France some of the time since then. He holds a French-Polish citizenship.
