Friend a Gorilla to launch on Facebook

A new “Friend a Gorilla” site is about to launch on the social networking website Facebook and it is aimed at helping the conservation of endangered mountain gorillas in Uganda.

Jason Biggs, the actor who starred in American Pie, is one of the people behind the idea, and in the company of other actors he is currently following a group of gorillas through the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda.

Friend a Gorilla gives Facebook users the opportunity of becoming friends with the animals on the site, for a $1 (£0.60) fee.

It is believed that there are only some 700 mountain gorillas still surviving where they live on the slopes of the Virunga Mountains on the borders of Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Friend a Gorilla site at Facebook is launching on Saturday.
